About the HCC

The Hallowell Conservation Commission is made up ofnine citizensappointed by the Mayor. The HCC and its friends work to protect the many natural resources in the Hallowell community. We conduct educational efforts and trail clean-up days, provide environmental information to the Planning Board and City Council, and serve as advocates for natural resources in our community.

The Open Space Plan

On January 28th, 2008, the City Council formally accepted the Hallowell's first Open Space Plan. The Council is spending time during the next few City Council meetings considering the disposition the Plan's recommendations.  Many of the recommendations, especially those regarding stream and wetland protection and low-impact development options, will be debated in the context of Hallowell’s Comprehensive Plan process, so interested folks are encouraged to attend the Comp Plan meetings as well. Information about that process, including meeting dates and minutes can be seen at Planning Decisions website.
